World Bicycle Relief Buffalo Bicycle (2017)
The 2017 World Bicycle Relief Buffalo Bicycle is a heavy-duty single-speed bike. Built and distributed throughout Africa, the Buffalo is a boon companion for rural residents, making travel a far more reasonable thing. The beefy frame is heavy-gauge steel, the top tube dipping down to fit a very wide range of riders. Wheels are equally tough; 40 spokes at the rear and 36 at the front, clad in puncture-resistant treaded tires, they roll smoothly on a wide variety of terrain. The rear rack is firmly affixed to the frame, its large supports providing a secure platform to carry up to 100 kilograms. Accessories are practical and comprehensive: a rear-mount stand is positioned beneath the rear rack's center, full fenders and a chainguard keep off water and dirt, and mounting points for lights abound.
Kit is chosen for long-lived reliability. Rear coaster brake, cranks mounted with cotter pins, platform pedals rideable in any (or no) footwear, rebuildable everything: wheel hubs, bottom bracket, headset. Stem and post are long, allowing extensive adjustability. Freely available from WBR, the maintenance manual is a model of clarity, from the comprehensive exploded diagrams to the instructions for everything from headset adjustments to wheel truing.
An excellent practical bicycle.
