When Chris and Sara Fortune purchased bicycle rack manufacturer Graber in 1989, they envisioned building a global business. With the help of renowned Italian designer Fabio Pedrini , they developed a line of easy-to-use, stylish bicycle racks.
In 1991, Saris -- a combination of Sara and Chris’ names – released its first bicycle rack, the Mountaineer, in independent bicycle dealers. The Mountaineer received rave reviews, and the company’s sales started growing overnight.
Demand for the well-designed bicycle racks quickly grew beyond the U.S. In 1991, the company expanded its reach into Asia, shipping its first container of product overseas . Today, Saris racks are sold in more than 50 countries worldwide.
In 1994, the Saris Bones trunk rack entered the market. With its iconic design, the Saris Bones has become one of the most recognisable and best-selling bicycle racks in the world.
As participation in cycling grew in the U.S., Saris recognized the opportunity to develop commercial bicycle parking solutions. In 1975, Saris entered the bicycle parking business supplying racks to schools, businesses, developers and municipalities.
Saris has continued to launch beautifully designed, easy-to-use bicycle racks, including the Thelma hitch rack and Solo trunk rack.
