When mountain biking, it's important to make sure you've got the correct gear with you out on the trail. There's nothing worse than being stuck with a flat tire or a broken chain and not being able to do anything about it.
Over my years riding, I've put together a kit that I take with me on every ride. It's definitely helped me out, hopefully it's helpful for you too!
- My hydration backpack with a 2 litre bladder and real mud effects!
-
Shock pump. One person from the group should carry a shock pump, just in case fine tuning on the trail is necessary. Good idea when setting up a new bike.
-
Mini pump. Although this one is not so mini. A larger barrel is good for big-bagged mountain bike tyres and if you've got a backpack anyway...
-
CO2 inflator and spare cartridge. A 16g (5/9 oz) cartridge will put enough in your tyre to keep you roll- ing. Small, lightweight and fast.
-
Puncture repair kit. Always handy if you run tubes. Small and light enough to barely notice. Can also be used to patch up small tyre holes.
-
Spare tube. Even when I run a tubeless setup I take a tube. Just in case.
-
Tyre levers. I like these Michelin levers. Never leave home without.
- Mobile phone. Obviously good in emergencies, but also to run GPS apps like Strava, especially as I don’t use a computer.
-
Mini tool. A necessity for mountain biking. This Topeak Alien tool has every allen key, chain tool and lots more.
- Zip ties. Just in case.
- Band aids. I should probably carry more medical supplies. These are good for small patch up jobs.
- Snakes. I also carry bananas and muesli bars depending how far we are riding. Pure glucose is great for a kick start, but be prepared for the highs and lows!
