Specialized Bicycle Components has issued a voluntary recall of select Roubaix, Ruby, Diverge, and Sirrus bicycles because they are susceptible to stress corrosion cracking of their steerer tube collars that could lead to failure and loss of control while riding.
There are four bike models affected from three model years - 2017, 2018, and 2019 - as indicated in the following chart graphic:
Specialized indicates it became aware of the issue "based upon reports from the field" and is taking immediate action to ensure rider safety. They have also reported the matter to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), though the U.S. "government shutdown" leaves the CPSC closed and their official notice pending. A formal notice has been released with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
What to do next
Owners of the affected bikes should immediately stop using them and return them to their local Authorized Specialized Retailer to have a new steerer tube collar installed at no cost.
